Chrysalis

I'm beginning to wonder if we should rename our home Chrysalis Cottage because we have so many Monarch butterfly chrysalides attached to the house this time of year. I counted 20 the other day and as soon as one hatches into a butterfly it seems like another caterpillar makes the long hike to the top of the porch to begin its own journey.
The dark chrysalis on the porch beam is an example of one ready to break open today. I've found that, as in much of nature, many don't make it, but there always seem to be plenty of butterflies around so I won't worry.
Sometimes the caterpillars attach in, shall we say, unusual places... This one makes me laugh every time I check on it.

I hope your day is full of sunshine and laughing, too!

July Snowmen

July brought many patriotic snowmen. Marlys made mine looking up in the sky at fireworks.
Pat made this guy dressed for the 4th of July for Marlys.

Thelma made this snowman for Pat celebrating Pat's birthday in July.
Veronica made Thelma's snowman dressed in patriotic colors driving a train. (Thelma's husband is a train enthusiast.)
Dorothy made Veronica's July block with lots of hotair balloons watching the fireworks.
And I made Dorothy's block with a 4th of July parade featuring a drummer, a flutist and a sousaphone (in honor of my daughter, who played the sousaphone all through high school).
