St. Timothy's

We attend a local church called St. Timothy's that has the most amazing stained glass windows. I decided to reinterpret them in fabric for my newest jacket. The colors have been changed, but I think I captured the idea of the windows. Front view

Elisia's Owls

Elisia and I walked through the vendors together at Road to California in January. She fell in love with this pattern and wanted me to make it for her. Instead I suggested that we make it together. She chose the fabrics (from my stash, plus a few from the local quilt store), she's cutting and fusing them and I'm buttonhole stitching them. I think it's going to be really cute! (The eyes are supposed to be buttons so they won't go on until it's finished and quilted.)

Unicorn

I'm not sure this one is Greco-Roman, but who could resist adding a unicorn? Not me!

Happy Birthday Elisia!

Today is Elisia's birthday. Twenty years ago she came into our lives and she's such a joy. We're so proud of you!

Minotaur

Here's another block from my mythology quilt. I think this is probably one of my favorites so far.

Harpy

Here's my harpy from the Mythology quilt I'm working on. I still need 2 more mythological beasts (there will be 16 in all) if you have any suggestions. They're mostly drawn from Greco-Roman mythology, with a few exceptions.

New Project

After my art quilt experiment with the gryphon I decided that I wanted to pursue the idea so...

Only one more to go, then I'll show you the quilt top assembled (well, I haven't found the perfect border fabric yet...)

Rose Star

This block has many possibilities for different colorations :-) I chose to paper foundation piece the center, but not the rest. Who says you have to use only one technique?!

Ribbon Star

That's a lot of quarter square triangles!

Original Star

Another block, this one called Original Star. I chose to paper foundation piece this block to ensure the points didn't get lost.

Kittens!

We went to the Humane Society on Saturday looking for a kitten. Our two cats are getting older (Cushman is 17 and Tchai is 10) and it seemed like a good time. We couldn't decide so we ended up getting two! Of course they will keep each other company :-) And no, they're not related, but were in the same enclosure.

It was almost impossible to get pictures of them together. They just never sit still or look in the same direction so here they are on Elisia's lap.

This is Kestrel, the female. It's already evident that she will be a mighty huntress :-)

She's the calmer of the two.

But full of curiosity.
And this little terror is Ninja

He's the male and almost never still. The only way I got these pictures is because Cushman came in the room and he stood still in his Halloween cat pose.

Then he calmed down a little.

And started looking around. He's the softer of the two and they both purr like crazy whenever we enter the room :-)

The house will never be the same. They are so much fun to watch, but it's a good thing we don't have any curtains. I'm not looking forward to the day when they discover my studio, LOL.

Ohio Star

This is one of my favorite traditional blocks so I just had to include it in my sampler quilt :-)
You're probably getting tired of seeing just blocks so I promise you something entirely different tomorrow!

Four Corners

One of the things I like about these block patterns is the many different options for coloring them. I only used red, white and blue and kept the background color of light blue on the edges, yet there were so many choices.

Diamond Star

Today's block is called Diamond Star. This was the ultimate test and I'll probably offer an alternate version of the block :-)

Meanwhile I've started work on a series of mythological appliques, mostly Greco-Roman. I'm toying with a variety of "punny" names: Hit or Myth, Mything Link, etc. Got one to suggest?

Country Farm

After taking a walk on the wild side :-) I've jumped in the other direction for a bit. I'm making a sampler quilt to teach. It will have everything from the basics to strip piecing to paper foundation piecing to just enough Y seams to make you feel like a pro. Above is the first block, called Country Farm. Many more to come.

P.S. The art quilt group is taking a hiatus for the summer, but will be back in September.
