Important Announcement!!!

For those of you in the Tuesday night Mt Carmel class, our very first class, September 11, has been cancelled because it's back-to-school night. We're very sorry, but we just found out and we have no easy way to let you know about this change. Please come to the first class on Wednesday night at Mt Carmel or Thursday night at Poway. Class will resume the following Tuesday night at Mt Carmel. And I've been told by a little birdie that the Mt Carmel classes will both be in room B-14, the room we were in at the end of the spring semester.

See you there and please help spread the word!

Christmas Tablerunner

I finally finished the tablerunner that I used to demo the circles in class 2 weeks ago. I'm very pleased with how it came out.

Oops! I was supposed to post something on Friday, but instead I had food poisoning. I haven't had it in quite awhile and it was a mild case, but it took me most of the weekend to get feeling up to snuff again.

Yesterday was my 50th birthday! Who woulda thought I'd make it this far. Every year is even better than the last so I'm not complaining. Wendy took me to lunch and out for a pedicure. Then we checked out a new quilt store's opening day. I came home to have dinner with Jake and Elisia followed by a homemade cake by Jake. Elisia told me all about her first day at band camp which sounded like fun, but exhausting. Pierre is due back tonight :-) He always seems to manage to be away for my birthday, but I guess that's partly my fault for being born in August!

This is the final week of classes for the summer semester. We'll be doing mega-sharing and a quick lesson on the art quilt (see the Tree quilt below). Bring everything you've made over the summer and your camera! No tracing supplies needed.

Fall semester starts Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, September 11, 12, 13 at the usual locations and times: Quilter's Paradise Tuesdays 1-4, Mt Carmel High School Tuesdays 6-9, Bits and Pieces Wednesdays 1-4, Mt Carmel High School 6-9, OASIS at North County Fair Thursdays 1-4, Poway Senior Center Thursdays 6-9. Hope to see you there.

Thanks for reading and don't be afraid to comment,

Finishing Redwork and Correction

Boy is my face red. I made a boo-boo on the directions for the side setting triangles on the Celtic piece and it's the worst kind of error: the pieces are too small. Where the directions say to cut a 17" square along both diagonals it "should" read cut a 21" square along both diagonals. Thanks to Beth who discovered that for me. I'll be announcing it in class next week, but just in case you're at that point now...

Remember all those redwork blocks that you've been diligently sewing in class and at home? Well this week I'll show you how to make a faced circle with an accent color inside to frame them. (If you didn't want to do the redwork you could position a large scale flower or an Oriental print in the circles.) I'll also show you how to make the alternate blocks. Don't panic if you don't have all the redwork squares done yet. There are 9 patterns and you only need 5 for this project. Please let me know if you've enjoyed the handwork process. Positive feedback is always aprreciated.

Next semester starts the week of September 11th. I'll be sending around roll-over signups the next 2 weeks of classes. I can't roll you over if you didn't attend this semester though. And don't forget to keep checking back here between semesters. I will post one picture of a fall project some time during the break!
Thanks for checking my blog,
Lisa
