Penalty Box?

For my birthday I received a new pair of boots. Somehow the box was left on the floor. The cats quickly decided to make it their own :-) Here's Tchai resting in the box. Is it a penalty box? A place for time out? Or a wonderful new cat bed?

You can tell that Cushy is quite at ease in the box despite the fact that he looks a tad cramped. Silly cats :-)

Setting Possibilities

Here are 3 setting possibilities. I'd love to hear your opinions and suggestions!

For the first one I simply blended the colors across the quilt top, warm on one side, cool on the other.

For the second one I put the larger beasts towards the bottom and the smaller towards the top. I also had them all facing towards the center of the quilt instead of looking off the edges.

For the final try I have most of them looking towards the center and the colors alternate warm and cool in diagonal bands.

So which do you prefer? Any other ideas on what I could try?

At last they are all stitched! Now to figure out what the order will be. Should I blend the background colors across the quilt? Or have them all facing towards the center of the quilt? Should the larger ones be on the bottom? Should I intersperse the cool and warm colored backgrounds? Check back and I'll show a variety of possibilities. You can help me decide :-)

Jonathan's Wedding

I have one sister and she had one child, Jonathan. We went to his wedding in Maine last week and Pierre took a few pictures.

Jake, Elisia and me waiting for the wedding to begin. An outdoor wedding on the coast of Maine is a very chancy thing, but the weather was sunny and perfect if you don't mind a little wind.

The wedding took place at Sebasco Estates, down the peninsula from Bath and quite near Popham if you're familiar with Maine. My great grandfather built the resort including the 9 hole golf course, salt water swimming pool and many of the cottages. It has long since been sold and resold, renovated and re-renovated, but there are parts that still feel like the place I spent so many summers as a girl. It was fun to see it again, especially for such a happy occasion.

Here's the hydra. This one was more difficult because the batik was thicker than usual and the color is one of the darker in value. Even using a light box I could only work on placement at night.

And I've been working away on my mythology series. Here is the gryphon that started it all, reworked in one color. There will be 16 in all, but I'm still 2 designs short.

As for the Woodland animal quilt, yes that's my own setting design as well as my own applique design.

Here is one of my 3 summer projects, finished at last. The colors are a bit off in the photo, but I can't seem to fix them. Not my favorite quilt, but it's done and will make a cute baby quilt.

Penguins!

I made this quilt using a magazine pattern as inspiration, but changed the shape of the beak and the position of the eyes. The setting is my variation also (although I certainly did not invent stars in the sashing!) The quilt was a 20th birthday gift to Elisia. Her birthday was in June, but it promptly went to her new apartment and I couldn't find the picture I had taken so I convinced her to bring it home one more time for a photo op.
